President Bush, Vice President Cheney, Secretary of Defense Rumsfeld and Attorney General Ashcroft should be impeached for operating torture centers at Bagram Air Base, in Afghanistan, Guantanamo Bay and many other centers around the world.
The following are examples of torture used at these centers: prisoners are put in solitary confinement and let out 15 minutes twice a week, they are deprived of sleep, stripped naked, have their hands chained to the ceiling of their cell and their feet to the floor, at any time, the temperature of their cells can be turned up to 100 degrees or turned down to 10 degrees, they are made to kneel in one position for hours on end while being kicked and yelled at in order to humiliate them, pain medication is withheld when they are in pain, food is withheld when they are hungry and they are threatened with transfer to facilities where torture is worse.
Who knows what other horrible things are being done to them. Who knows how many innocent people have been kidnapped, tortured and murdered by agents and soldiers of the United States military.
How horrible that, in the process of “fighting terrorism”, the leaders of my country have employed the use of torture and, in doing so, have started to act like terrorists themselves.
I know money is tight, and the effort to stop Bush’s War is taking up scarce resources, but anti-war and human rights groups must do a better job of bringing the world’s attention to the plight of prisoners who are suffering at the hands of their American torturers, especially people like those two elderly men who were released a few months ago at Guantanamo Bay who were taken prisoner during the chaos of battle and who had nothing to do with terrorism
