Water Main Breaks on Corner of Peel and St-Jacques

Workers clean up after a water main break flooded the corner of Peel and St-Jacques. City official blamed the break, which occurred early Friday morning, on the cold as well as the pipe’s age – it dates back to the 1890’s. City crews build dams out of snow to stop the water, which covered several blocks and was a meter deep at some points, from flooding the Ville Marie Tunnel. The city expects the intersection to be closed until Monday and has also closed surrounding streets. There have been 19 water main breaks in the City of Montreal since Dec. 30.
