Union Montreal smears Bergeron

Richard Bergeron, leader of Projet Montreal, has been gaining voter support in the polls. Union Montreal, the party of incumbent mayor Gérald Tremblay released last week a top 10 list of “peculiar comments” Bergeron has made over the years. Taken out of context, the quotes do seem “peculiar.”
“I smoke because it’s good for my health,” Bergeron is quoted as saying. He was, it seems, making a joke about how clumsy he is. The damage smoking causes to his lungs, prevents him from running quickly and, thus, from injuring himself, Bergeron said in the interview with La Presse this month.
Peter McQueen, a candidate for Projet Montreal in the Notre-Dame-de-Grace welcomed the publicity, saying it’s a sign his leader is now considered a threat in the election race.
