Romance Is Boring

Los Campesinos!
Romance Is Boring
(Wichita; 2010)

7/10

Welsh indie-pop septet Los Campesinos! have recorded three albums in the span of three years. Two arrived in the same year, 2008, only separated by eight months. Now they’re back with a 15-month follow up, Romance Is Boring.
With such a big chunk of time, one would think the band would trim back their collected material to only include the best of their song writing. Not in this case. With 13 tracks and two interludes, Romance Is Boring drags on like the worst of relationships.
But there are some great energetic tracks filled to the brim with bombastic arrangements, most notable is the brass section. Los Campesinos! save the best for last as the wordier titled tracks near the end provide the most punch. “I Just Sighed. I Just Sighed, Just So You Know” explodes under the Welsh accented vocals.

Trial Track: “The Sea Is a Good Place to Think of the Future”
