Food groups form ‘collective’

The People’s Potato and Le Frigo Vert have a new Board of Directors and a newly tweaked constitution following the collective’s Annual General Meeting last week.
Fifty-some people crammed into the GSA Lounge at 2030 MacKay on Feb. 28 to have their say on constitutional amendments, which include a probationary period for new staff, and a new funding formula and change of name for the Board.
The Board, formerly known as Le Frigo Vert Inc., is now the Concordia Food Collective. The change was made to eliminate ambiguities associated with the old name, mainly that it encompasses more than Le Frigo Vert.
The Board has been made tighter by reducing the number of positions available from twelve to nine. Eight people were elected to the board, leaving one position they may fill by appointment.
While the board used to take 25 per cent of any budget surpluses to fund itself, it will now receive one per cent from each of the two collective’s budgets to ensure it is not left high and dry should there be no surplus. This funding may also be waived, subject to need.
As for hired staff, a probationary period of three months has been put into place, making it easier for employees who aren’t up to snuff or don’t fulfill their commitments to be shown the door.
The next Board meeting of the Concordia Food Collective is March 6.
