Time out

It’s all over my friends.
The promising season that was for the Concordia Stingers varsity teams is now over.
With the women’s basketball loss to Laval on the weekend and women’s hockey disappointing fifth place at the CIS nationals, all of our bees are back in the hive until next season.
There will be time to look back upon the season and find out what was good and bad, but that is neither here or now.
The simple fact is, that no matter what rankings our teams have or how many championships they win, we should still be proud of our athletes.
And there is lots to be proud of. The women’s hockey team won the QSSF title, and three of the members of that team received recognition for their achievements.
Marie-Claude Allard and Suzanne Kaye were named hockey All-Canadians while Lauren Houghton, as the Concordian reported last week, won the TSN award.
The men’s hockey team, despite a slow start, showed tremendous heart and character towards the end of the season. They made a strong push to the playoffs, falling just short of their goal.
We had some ups and downs on the hardcourt as well, but there are some positives to be taken from that.
The men’s basketball team didn’t win that many games this year. But, that being said, they were a team made up mostly of rookies. A team that lost most of those games by the slightest of margins. They showed some positive signs towards the end of the season and hopefully that carries over into next season.
The women’s team had a little more success on the court. They advanced to the playoffs and beat McGill in the semi-finals to advance to the league finals against Laval.
Unfortunately, they could not pull off an upset of a very tough opponent that has now won three straight provincial championships.
So keep your chins up ladies and gentlemen. Championships and victories aren’t the most important thing.
What is important is playing hard and giving it all you’ve got. Nobody can say that any of our teams didn’t give it their all this season. Good job.
