BoG votes against tabling in the lobby

Wednesday’s Board of Governor’s meeting was centred around many of the same issues that had been discussed last semester.

Student governor Chae Dickie Clark brought up the issue of tabling in the Mezzanine. “I tried to table last week but could not in the Mezz because it was not a Monday,” Clark stated. “You [the BoG] are truly harming clubs by not giving us space.” The moratorium was lifted last November despite the events of Sept. 9, but the students representatives are not satisfied.

“Let’s get this ban out of the way,” Clark added. The discussion about the tabling ban ended after all of the members of the BoG, with the exception of the three student representatives, voted against resuming tabling in the lobby of the Hall Building.

Vice-Rector Services Michael Di Grappa explained that there are currently discussions between the administration and the CSU about a plan to turn the seventh floor into a student lounge where they would be able to express themselves freely and put up tables and expositions. “I am just waiting to hear from the CSU now,” Di Grappa concluded.

Also discussed were the reasons behind former dean of students Donald Boisvert’s, sudden resignation last week. “His reasons were personal and he is entitled to his privacy,” said one of the members.

CSU president Sabine Friesinger was interested in knowing what the BoG will do about Hillel members distributing questionable and perhaps disrespectful material on campus. The board assured Friesinger that they are looking into the matter and that it is an ongoing process.
