Is Oscar too discriminating?

Year after year, dubious decision after outright awful decision, the Academy Awards have maintained their aura of prestige among the film industry and the larger public alike. This year marks the seventy-fifth anniversary of the Oscars, and the fascination surrounding them is as present as it has been in the past.

The Oscar craze, while a year-round phenomenon for a number of film enthusiasts, hits the larger public around December with the release of the major award contenders, and lasts until the actual ceremony, which will be held on Mach. 23.
