ConU ties with Ottawa

The Concordia Stingers’ women’s hockey team surely did not give out its best performance last Sunday afternoon at Ed Meagher Arena.

The Stingers had just humiliated the Carleton Ravens 7-1 the previous week. However, Concordia couldn’t keep its winning streak going.

After a seemingly endless game, the Stingers and the Ottawa Gee-Gees both settled for a 1-1 tie.

The Stingers’ forwards appeared especially tired and couldn’t manage to slip inside Ottawa’s zone very often.

In fact, the Lady Bees only mustered up a ten shots on goal against Ottawa goaltender Megan Takeda in the first period. Concordia’s Cecilia Anderson had an easy period, batting away Ottawa’s nine shots on goal.

Both teams attempted to sneak the puck past each other’s goaltenders, but the first period ended in a draw.

The excitement picked up halfway through the second period. ConU’s own Kendra MacDonald started things off by firing a shot right past Takeda, offering her team a 1-0 lead.

That lead was short-lived, however. A few minutes before the end of the period, the Gee-Gees managed to outplay Anderson in order to tie things up at one-all.

The third period was as eventful as the first, with both teams unable to get the puck past the goal line. The game ended and both teams brought back one point with their 1-1 tie.

The Stingers hold onto their number-two spot in the CIS.
