Forget the frigid temperatures, spring is in the air and the CASA Cares annual charity fashion show is a great way to get a jump start on ideas for your spring wardrobe.
The 2004 edition of the event, entitled “Cause We Care,” marks the fourth anniversary of the spring fashion show which involves more than fifty Concordia students in everything from modeling to executive positions.
CASA Cares, a subsidiary of the Commerce and Administration Student Association (CASA), was founded in 1997 with the primary goal of giving back to the Concordia community as well as supporting international projects. As Gail Casey, the VP of Marketing for CASA explains, “[CASA Cares] is the social side of the Business school. Our primary focus on is fundraising for charities.”
Last year, CASA Cares’ fashion extravaganza raised money for World Vision, which resulted in the sponsorship of two underprivileged children abroad. This year, CASA Cares is refocusing on the Montreal community. As Casey highlights, all of CASA’s fundraising efforts this year have been aimed at charities based in the Montreal area. The fashion show’s legacy of support for children’s causes continues in its fourth year. CASA Cares hopes to raise over $3,000 for the Montreal Children’s Hospital, the pediatric component of the McGill University Health Center, Cennential fundraising drive.
This year’s show features models sporting the latest spring wear from Gas, Bertoni, Want Stil, Jacob, Aqua Skye, Betty Bazaar and Lingerie et Compagnie to name a few. The show is divided into 15 different “scenes” each incorporating an intermingling of dancers and models performing to re-vamped versions of inspiring tunes.
This is one event where being fashionably late is definitely unstylish. Prior to the catwalk glam fest, guests can enjoy a classy cocktail pre-show gathering sponsored by La Trattoria Il Theatro and Mike’s Hard Lemonade Cranberry.
Those who have attended the event in the past can look forward to a much more elaborate event this time around. “We’re hoping this will be the biggest event to date,” Casey reveals. “This is our biggest fundraiser of the year.”
With the huge venue of the Metropolis as its stage, and a troop of dedicated dancers and models who have been perfecting their runway strut, the show promises to be a larger than life experience. As Casey raves, “it’s a great charitable cause and it’s going to be a fantastic show. . . a really great mix of dancing and modeling!”
Whether you’ve attended the event in the past or are just looking for a great way to brush off those winter blahs and get into the spirit of spring, the fourth annual CASA Cares Fashion Show is a perfect way to defrost even the most chilly March evening as well as raise funds for a much deserving Montreal institution.
