School’s out for summer

Well, here we are at the end of the semester. Finally. It may have seemed like it was never going to end, but hey, here it is in all of its glory. Just a few more exams to do, maybe some papers to write and you are home free for the summer (at which point you probably start working your summer job or start your summer courses).

The year that is now behind us actually wasn’t all that bad. Yes, we did have a slight scandal with the documentary Discordia and with accusations of the elections being fixed, but other than that, it has been a quiet 2003-04 school year.

And I think most ConU students are grateful for the lack of coverage in national and international media. Most of the apathetic students here I’m sure were happy that they could go to their classes in peace (until March, when various members of student council hopefuls popped up in your classes asking you to go and vote-which appears to have worked because there was a record turnout at the voting stations this year. Maybe you guys wanted some stability with New Evolution?)

For those of you returning next year don’t be discouraged, the staff at The Concordian will continue to cover the issues that matter to or affect you. As always, there is a turnover in the staff and new people will be grasping the reins of this challenge we call a weekly newspaper.

Don’t worry, the Sports section will be prepared for the upcoming year, geared with articles about the various sports teams around Loyola Campus (more notably football, rugby and soccer).

News will continue to duke it out with the administration and with the CSU, breaking down the issues so that we can all understand them.

The Entertainment section (for which we still need editors) will keep dishing out the movie reviews and concert reviews and if we’re lucky, we’ll keep on reviewing clubs and have the ConU Confidential column.

Features will keep on digging into issues that affect all of us Concordia students.

So how’s that for something to look forward to? If it doesn’t do anything for you, why not contribute to the paper next year? We are constantly on the lookout for good writers who have a certain point-of-view and who can do thorough and thoughtful articles.

Contact the future editor-in-chief with any of your ideas or if you are interested in doing some writing or layout at [email protected].

Have a great summer, stay out of trouble and remember: (big moral to the story here) have fun no matter what you do, because if you’re not having fun, it’s not worth it. See ya!
