The Concordia Stinger men’s and women’s rugby teams both opened their regular season this past week.
The men’s team opened their season at home against the ETS Pirahnas Wednesday night. The Stingers scored first but the Pirahnas took the lead 7-5 on a converted try. Concordia then outscored ETS 57-5 the rest of the way, including 36 straight points to close out the game, winning 62-12.
The men fell in their next game on Sunday however, a close 27-22 loss to Bishop’s Gaiters.
Their next game is Sept. 25 at Sherbrooke against the Vert et Or.
The women’s rugby Stingers opened their regular season with a tough 51-7 loss against the University of Ottawa on the road.
Erin Middleton led the Gee-Gees offense, scoring two tries and four conversions while Tanya Gaffney added three tries.
Danielle Dubuc, in her fourth year with the Stingers, scored Concordia’s lone try. Their next game is Sept. 16 at home against Sherbrooke.
