Blue hats by the hundreds at Sunday’s Rally for Darfur

Before it’s too late, said activist Montrealers rallying downtown last Sunday, before Sudan’s military dictatorship begins another round of mass murders in the Darfur region, before it’s too late for the United Nations to send a peacekeeping force to intervene – we must act.

Major rallies, candlelight vigils and conferences took place in Montreal, Toronto and other major cities in Canada, as well as in 34 other countries on the day human rights activists are calling the Global Day for Darfur.

“We have to be here,” said 16 year-old Jonathan Pedneault,

“It is really important to support the people in Darfur because the problem over there, in a big way, is a result of our inaction.”

Pedneault and his mother were among the hundreds who turned out to urge the Canadian government to back the UN and end the genocide in Sudan’s Darfur region.
