Writer Peter Behrens prepares to meet Micha

Peter Behrens’ first thoughts after winning Canada’s most prestigious literary awards were on a suit.

“I was immediately worried that I would have to buy a suit, I live in rural Maine and I’ve been on this book tour almost every day. I didn’t know where I’d get a suit!” said Behrens, who has been promoting his novel, The Law of Dreams, for the past few months.

The winners of this year’s Governor General Award were given token gold envelopes at two separate ceremonies in Toronto and Montreal on Mon. Nov. 20; one for French language writing and translating, and one for English language writing and translating.

For Behrens, proud winner of his first Governor General Award, the real treat will be the reunion of all authors and publishers at Rideau Hall in Ottawa.

The black tie event, which initially had Behrens scrambling for a suit, will bring together all the Governor General Award winners with the Governor General of Canada, Micha
