Virginia Woolf Struggles to Remain Alive in Vivre

After Brigitte Haentjens’s Tout comme elle was chosen as the best Montreal play of 2006 by Ici, Voir and La Presse, the bar was set high for her new play. Her ambitious previous work about mother-daughter relationships had required the participation of fifty of Quebec’s best actresses to fill the stage throughout each representation.

This year, she retaliates with Vivre, a textually complex look at the life and writings of Virginia Woolf. This new production operates on a much smaller scale. Only three actors come to populate the stage, sharing a myriad of fictional and real-life characters between them. C
