Why do I care?

Why do I care? I do not know I just do.
Was this something inside of me that was learned
or was I born with this sense of empathy?
Did the Heavens above bestow with this sense of compassion?
Why do I care? I do not know I just do.

What I do know is that I would lay down my life to protect yours.
For my love is greater than any ocean you have ever seen. I would stand
and fight if you can not. I would do whatever it takes to shield you from harm.
Why do I care? I do not know I just do.

Whatever the distance, whatever the task, I would undertake it
just to put a smile on your beautiful face. If I had to I would steal fire
from the Gods to keep you warm even if it meant I would go cold.
Why do I care? I do not know I just do.

When you laugh, I laugh and when you cry, I cry.
I would give you the last piece of bread even if it meant I would go hungry.
If you could not walk I would pick you up and carry you to wherever your heart desires.
Why do I care? I do not know I just do.

When you are ill I will nurse you back to health, I will not move till you get well.
You will never feel alone because I will always be by your side.
Everything on this Earth is nothing without you.
Why do I care? I do not know I just do.

You will never know the meaning of danger because I will always make you feel safe.
You have nothing to fear when I am here; you have nothing to worry about when I am here.
Your lips will never know the sensation of thirst because I will be there to hand you water.
Why do I care? I do not know I just do.

Why do I care? I do not know I just do.
Was this something inside of me that was learned
or was I born with this sense of empathy?
Did the Heavens above bestow with this sense of compassion?
Why do I care? I do not know I just do.
