Born Ruffians – Quick Review

Red, Yellow & Blue is the debut LP from native Torontonian indie rockers, Born Ruffians. Produced by Animal Collective/Panda Bear knob-tweaker Rusty Santos, they stick to a proven formula: rousing, not too progressive pop, but not too poppy.

It’s a refreshing listen – the guitars are bright, lead singer Luke Lalonde’s voice is unrestrained, and the drumming is stylistic. The songwriting on the album is confident and the rhythm section moves at a steady pace with plenty of breakdowns, build ups, fills and diversions.
I’m sure David Suzuki would dig “Foxes Mate For Life,” among other highlights “Kurt Vonnegut” and “Hedonistic Me.”
