Team “Hercules” from McGill looked on as the crusher came down on their arched bridge made of Popsicle sticks and glue. Their creation withstood 333 kilograms of pressure. The 24th annual Troitsky Bridge Building Competition, held March 9 at Concordia’s Hall auditorium, had 26 competing teams. Though an entry withstood over one ton of pressure (Team “Trussworthy” from McMaster University), it was not the maximum weight that decided the contest, but rather the “efficiency” with which the bridge was built by factoring in the amount of materials used versus the weight withstood. Teams from Ryerson University and Universite de Montreal finished first and second respectively.
