Is ethnic unfashionable?

It looks like a Stepford Wives version of the world: porcelain-skin blondes walking one after the other, each strikingly similar to the next, dressed in bright, billowy fabric. Despite the upcoming season’s colourful, bold floral patterns, it looks as though fashion has gone pale.
Ethnic diversity was noticeably lacking at recent showings of the women’s spring 2008 collections in New York and Europe. Instead, it is homogenous view of beauty that’s parading down most runways as of late. The media have dubbed it “The Blackout” – the lack of black models in the fashion industry.
Most agencies are blaming the problem on designers, saying they ask for nothing but rail-thin blondes
