Baseball team crowned national champions

The Concordia Stingers baseball team are the 2009 Canadian Intercollegiate Baseball Association national champions, defeating the Cape Breton Capers by a decisive score of 12-2 in the gold medal game.
“It feels great, I’m just so happy,” said team manager Howard Schwartz.
The Stingers had a challenging weekend leading up to the finals, as the team had to win all three of their games played on Sunday.
“Realistically, I didn’t like our chances and I told the team that,” Schwartz said, “it’s hard enough to win a double-header, let alone three games in one day.”
“When we got to the finals, though, I knew we could do it. It was an incredible challenge to rise up to.”
The Stingers defeated Western 6-2, squeaked by Ottawa 4-3 for a last-inning win in the semi-finals, and finally went on to stake their claim as national champs.
This is the first time Concordia has won the CIBA championships, but hopefully not the last.
“Winning the championships is not the only thing in the world, but this is a just reward for the efforts the guys put forth,” said Schwartz.
