While a lot of Montrealers took the weekend to enjoy what may be the remaining scraps of good weather until next June, others decided to forgo the sunshine to attend the ninth annual Art Tattoo Show. Perhaps the largest gathering of the year where no one will bat an eyelash at a pierced sternum and where skin that’s actually skin-coloured will set you apart, the festival attracted masses of both the curious and experienced. Artists and enthusiasts alike mingled, while every turn of one’s head revealed yet another person getting inked at one of the many stations set up by tattoo parlours from all over the world. Yet the tattoo artists did not entirely soak up the spotlight. Local rockabilly band Joe Henry & the Rockin’ Bones were also there to liven things up. With a performance by local burlesque star Scarlett James and an appearance by Montreal native (and holder of Gaga’s seal of approval) Rick Genest, better known as Zombie Boy, the weekend had plenty of good vibes and colourful entertainment to offer.
