We’re #1!

Guess what, Montrealers? The No. 1 concert venue in the country is right here in our city! According to the concert tour industry’s leading publication, Pollstar magazine, The Metropolis (59 St-Catherine St. E.) was ranked the No. 1 music venue in Canada and No. 9 best in the world in the magazine’s recent chart listing of the top 100 club venues based on ticket sales.
“We are very proud,” said Metropolis manager July Brodeur. “We went from being in the top 50 to the top 10 in just a few months.”
Brodeur admits that the general public might not be familiar with Pollstar magazine, it is a major reference in the concert industry. “This will look great on our CV and will attract many music performers to Montreal,” she added.
Brodeur explained the venue’s rise in the Pollstar’s ranking by the staff efforts and commitment. To her, the fact that the venue has been ranked above some of the most popular American venues shows how passionate the staff is about music and how receptive the Montreal public is to their work.
“I’m not surprised [by this ranking],” said music fan Catherine Gadbois, on her way out of the venue after buying tickets for the Metronomy concert. “I have been going to the Metropolis for years and the venue has a great sound and a perfect size. Seeing concerts at the Metropolis is so much better than those big impersonal venues like the Bell Center.”
In a press release, L’équipe Spectra, the company owning the Metropolis and responsible for cultural events like the Jazz Festival and the FrancoFolies, said it was pleased to see one of their venues obtain top rankings from “the world’s most reliable source in the industry,” and said
it will allow them to offer the world one more window on the city of Montreal.
