A unique event that grants everyone access to fashion.
The fourth edition of Montreal Fashion Week, organized by the Metropolitan Fashion Cluster (MMODE), will take place from Sept. 16 to Sept. 22. Its program includes over 130 events in Montreal, Sherbrooke, and Quebec City, showcasing the talents of Quebec designers.
“Our fashion week is a little different from others around the world,” said Sarah-Jade Allard-Théberge, communication-marketing adviser for MMODE.
All participating brands are Quebec-based and enjoy a great deal of creative freedom: they are allowed to choose the event they wish to host, the audience they wish to address, and the most opportune moment to promote their creations.
Over 200 organizations are involved in the project, which explains the considerable number of events included in fashion week. From Monday to Sunday, a variety of projects will take place, from fashion shows and collection launches to exhibitions and pop-ups.
“There’s something for everyone, whether you’re a fashion enthusiast or a novice,” explained Allard-Théberge.
Every evening this week apart, from Tuesday, signature events will take place. These will be accessible to the general public and will include a launch party, an exclusive fall collection fashion show, and a collaborative fashion show on Laurier Avenue West, among others. The full program is available on the Montreal Fashion Week website.
“Montreal Fashion Week has, of course, been around for more than four years, but this is only its fourth edition since its philosophy was revised,” said Allard-Théberge. The previous editions were more classic, exclusive, and elitist. “It was mostly tailored to buyers and big names in the industry,” she added.
In 2018, MMODE took over Montreal Fashion Week and is striving to make the event inclusive and accessible to the public while also fostering profits for local businesses.
All events are unique, and the vast majority of them are open to all and don’t cost a dime. Some events require tickets, but MMODE strives to sell them at a reasonable price.
“The goal of Fashion Week is to make fashion accessible to everyone; that’s our biggest mandate,” said Théberge. “We have an enormous amount of talent in Quebec, and we want to prove that we are able to create almost everything locally.”
Most events will be mediated and documented by MMODE, which will publish content captured on the spot on all its platforms (Instagram, TikTok, Facebook) for those who can’t be there and those who can’t be everywhere at once.
