Astro Coast

Surfer Blood
Astro Coast
(Kanine Records, 2009)

8/10

Surfer Blood’s reverb-laden vocals, echo guitar effects, and youthful harmonies have a 70s pop feel that will leave you humming along with every verse and chorus. Despite having a bit of an old-school vibe, there’s an undeniable innocence to Surfer Blood. The kind of innocence that’s dying to be lost, like a 12-year-old kid realizing how much fun being bad is.
Even if they hail from Florida, this young band shows a definite brit-pop influence. That and they probably listened to a lot of old Weezer.
Astro Coast has that brave new world feeling; the kind teenagers often get before they grow old and become jaded. All in all, a nice way to start off the decade.
