The Concordian Student Newspaper, Inc. is a registered nonprofit and student-led newspaper founded in 1983 which serves the Concordia University campus and surrounding community. We are a Concordia Fee Levy group that collects $0.19 cents per credit from undergraduate students. This allows us to continue running our platform which publishes student work, provides paid experience for student journalists, and keeps our campus community informed with regular coverage of news, sports, and other student activities.
Operating as a fee levy group allows us to remain independent from Concordia University. As student journalists, this allows us to stay committed to unbiased reporting, offer a fair and accurate account of student voices, and retain the right to keep the university accountable to its student community. We follow the CAJ’s Ethics Guidelines and Principles for Ethical Journalism.
Students who opt-in to the fee levy are invited to contribute to the paper, attend pitch meetings, and consume our content for free. Any fee-paying student is also welcome at our Annual General Meeting and may apply to join our Board of Directors.
Any Concordia student who wishes to opt out of the fee levy ($0.19 per credit for undergraduate students) may do so during the opt out period, which begins between 24 hours after the DNE deadline for each semester and lasts for 14 days. For more information and to opt out please visit the Concordia Community website.
The Concordian is a member of the Canadian University Press.
The Concordian is committed to providing our members access to up-to-date documents regarding our governance, operations, and finances.
