Laforest and Gallardo reinstated

At its March 16 meeting, the CSU’s judicial board ruled that A Better Concordia’s presidential candidate Schubert Laforest and VP academic and advocacy hopeful Lucia Gallardo should be allowed to participate in the elections, two weeks after being disqualified by the chief electoral officer when their student status came into question.

CSU exec accused of not being a student

The current student status of Concordia Student Union vice-president advocacy Morgan Pudwell was questioned last week, leading to a report issued by Chair Nick Cuillerier. The report stated that two unidentified members of either council, the executive or the judicial board were not registered students according to the Dean of Students’ office, but the names are not being divulged just yet.

JB member resigns after filing public complaint

On March 14, judicial board member Nadim Kobeissi resigned following the very public discussion of his complaint concerning fellow JB member Shannon Thomas and the tension and lack of respect that he said exists between them. Kobeissi said that Thomas’ past behaviour towards him had been “insulting” and “passive aggressive,” making him feel unwelcome at meetings.

ConU kicks off strike with a protest

At 11.30 a.m., about 100 students started marching in circles around the downtown campus, progressively joined by more protesters along the way.

Last Wednesday’s general assembly got off to a rough start, after it began an hour late due to slow registration and technical difficulties with the live stream. Students filed into the four designated areas, H-110, the 7th floor Hall lounge, the LB building and Loyola’s The Hive, making for an estimated 1,500 students in attendance, out of a possible 35,000 undergraduates.

As the Concordia Student Union campaign period progresses, The Concordian sat down with the 2012-2013 executive candidates from A Better Concordia and Concordia Could Be. They were asked to discuss their strengths, platforms and goals for the next academic year. Voting begins March 20.

First CSU debate attracts few students

Each of the A Better Concordia and Concordia Could Be affiliation candidates for president, VP external, VP sustainability and VP internal and clubs were gathered on the 7th floor of the Hall building to present their campaign platforms and answer students’ questions and concerns.

Candidates revealed for CSU elections

Out of the 40 candidates running in the Concordia Student Union elections who were invited to an information meeting on the evening of March 4, only three showed up.The two candidates running for CSU president, current CSU councillor Melanie Hotchkiss and Arts and Science Federation of Associations VP internal Schubert Laforest — who are each leading an affiliation of candidates running for executive positions — were not present.
