Cryptography software protects the privacy of emails and files, and prevents the monitoring of email exchanges by law enforcement agencies.

Auckland, New Zealand – 12/12/2002 — Zolt.org non-profit software development group has announced the debut of Zenc Cryptography v1.0, for Windows 98/ME/NT/2000/XP. This freely available software allows computer users to encrypt and decrypt text and files, exchange encryption keys, and convert the messages unreadable by law enforcement agencies that monitor communication on the Internet.

Zenc Cryptography provides a desktop application interface, Outlook/Outlook Express plug-in and a Windows Explorer extension. Encryption and decryption functionalities are also available via the web using an ActiveX control based on the software engine at http://www.zolt.org/zenc/Zencctrl.asp.

“Our free software is the ideal tool for civil right activists or any other users living in countries where law enforcement agencies closely watch computer users’ communication.” said Zolt Pardi, lead software developer of zolt.org. “Nowadays every single mail server is closely watched and analyzed. Email messages are backed up for years, it is not surprising that users are more concerned about their privacy.”

Zolt.org offers a fully functional and publicly available key-server to store and exchange the public keys between users. The software supports organizational level key-server implementation, which uses MS SQL or Linux Postgre SQL database.
Zenc uses ECC (Elliptic Curve Cryptosystem) and the mathematical algorithm, which generates the private and public key-pair based on the Elliptic Curve method. The strength of Zenc’s encryption key is equivalent to a 2048-bit RSA key. Using the ECC algorithm, the software does not need to save the encryption keys to disk – the private key is the user’s password.
“Zenc brings the mathematical theory into practical software development, and one of the most important result of this is that the software does not save the private encryption key to disk, therefore the key cannot possibly be stolen or analyzed by a third party.” said Pardi. “This kind of implementation even meets with the high security business or military requirements.”

Key features:
– Outlook/Outlook Express plug-in
– Private encryption key is based on a strong password policy
– Encrypt/decrypt files directly from Windows Explorer
– Encrypt/decrypt the clipboard and dialog window
– Supports public and organization level key-server
– Private encryption key never saved to disk.
– Encryption keys based on Elliptic Curve Cryptosystem
– FIPS 197 compliant Rijndael symmetric algorithm
– Fully functional, publicly available zolt.org key-server
– Text and file encryption via web using an ActiveX control

The Personal Edition of Zenc Cryptography is available for download free of charge at http://www.zolt.org.
