The 3rd Annual Virgin Festival:

The North American spin-off of the U.K.’s sensational V-Festival rocked Toronto Island Park last weekend and was greener than ever.
Since its Canadian beginnings, the festival has put a spotlight on environmentally friendly gestures and has encouraged concertgoers to do their part.
“Making the Virgin Festival green is of paramount importance to us,” said Andrew Bridge, director of Virgin Festivals, Virgin Mobile Canada.
V-Fest officials made eco-living an obvious theme this year. The festival grounds radiated sustainability, from complete on-site recycling and composting, to the availability of human-powered Motorola phone chargers.
The numerous efforts by Virgin made the third annual V-Fest in Toronto the most music green-scene touring across Canada.
“When the festival goes to places like Toronto Island Park,” Bridge explained, “we want to leave the area in the same state that they were in before we set up or even return it to an even better, greener state.”
Though event coordinators worked hard to leave no marks or trails behind, there is always a Virgin Festival aftermath. Following the tour’s departure from each host city, donations are made to improve the green spaces or parks that the fest occupied.
“There’s so much that we can all do for the environment.” Bridge added. “We hope that fans leave the festival with a chunk of green from us and implement it into their lives.”
