Spoon and company serve up raucous melodies

Let's get the problems from the sold-out Sept. 19 show dealt with first. It may be a bit small, but the Casa del Popolo is a good place to see a show. . . in the winter. I can't begin to imagine what the place was like over the summer, but on this warm mid-September evening it was borderline unbearable.

Films inspired by the fall of the Berlin wall

The Goethe Institute, the German Institute of Montreal began its Best of the 90s: German Highlights showcase, featuring 14 of the best German films from the previous decade last Sept. 12. Included in the screenings were the first two films by the director of Run Lola Run, Tom Tykwer.

From Quebec to Montreal

Strange and amusing: those are the two words that come to mind when watching the film Quebec-Montreal. It is the directorial debut of Ricardo Trogi and the writing debuts of Jean-Philippe Pearson and Patrice Robitaille, who also star in the film. The story follows three sets of people on their way from Quebec City to Montreal.

The decadent descent into the psyche of an obsessive man highlights the small film, One Hour Photo. Robin Williams continues his journey into darkness as his last three films in Hollywood have at times been dubbed William's trilogy of darkness. Under the direction of Danny De Vito he played a larger than life maniacal and comedic character in the misunderstood Death To Smoochy.

Take a brisk stroll west along de Maisonneuve and you'll come across Moe's diner, a cozy little eatery that has for years been a staple for many students in the area. Walking through the front door is like stepping through a porthole in time. Moe's whisks you back to the 1950s, where young couples share milk shakes while gazing dreamily into each others eyes.

The most memorable aspect of 'FearDotCom' was the amount of walkouts witnessed during the press screening of the film. Expectations were low as Director William Malone already has one strike to his name witht 'House on Haunted Hill. Yet this film sinks cinema to a new low and begs the question: Why? How can such a perverse and sick tale make it to the silver screen where legends are born and magic is made? This film is a perversion of cinema.
